Big Kids is a unique child care program where your child can spend their summer in a home setting with both indoor and outdoor fun, while also enjoying a summer full of fun field trips and activities away from the home! Big Kids provides care over the summer for children from Lake and McHenry counties although children enrolled in the program for before/after school care enjoy priority for spots in the program for the summer. Due to our vast play opportunities both indoors and outdoors for the kids, we enjoy time spent at home as much as we enjoy getting out in the community for field trips! Read below for specific information about child care over the summer.
Our child care setting is child-centered – we discuss with the kids what they want to do on any given day, rather than having pre-planned activities that will occur on specific days. Doing this we can take into account factors such as the weather, activities most appropriate for the number of kids we have in care that day, rates and discounts offered at venues only on certain days of the week, as well as what the kids want to do or feel like doing. Activities and field trips over the summer typically include: Antioch Pool (2-3 times per week), a zoo or petting zoo, movies at the Fox Lake Cinema, out to eat for lunch and picnics, Stade’s Farm (several trips for strawberry picking, raspberry picking, and bean picking), Skate on Grand, Pump It Up or other indoor jumpy place, beach trips (Fish Lake Beach and Silver Lake Beach), waterpark, Great America, and more. In addition to the paid activities mentioned above, we also take many trips that cost nothing to places like different Forest Preserves, parks, playgrounds, library programs, and the Volo Bog.
MEAL AND SNACK SCHEDULE
We serve all meals (breakfast and lunch) and two snacks per day. Big kids come with big appetites and we serve high quality meals and snacks that fuel play and learning for the kids. The following meal and snack times are adhered to over the summer:
Morning Snack: 9:15-9:30am
Afternoon Snack: 3:30-4pm
Parents are asked to provide the following supplies for their child over the summer: helmet, sunscreen (we prefer 50+ SPF and lotion over spray), bug spray, water bottle, swimsuit or trunks, beach towel, 1-2 complete change of clothes.
DAYS & HOURS OF CARE
Over the summer the day care opens at 6:00am and we offer extended hours of care until 6:15pm daily at no extra charge. The day care is open Monday through Friday but CLOSED on Monday, May 25th and Monday, July 20th-Friday, July 24th.
We are a family-centered program so allow parents to sign up for 1-5 days of care per week based on their needs and schedules. The following are rates for summer of 2020:
Weeks with 1-2 days of care or drop-in care: $40/day
Weeks with 3-4 days of care: $35/day
